Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Traffic Safety
More than ever, people are getting outside to enjoy the numerous walking and biking opportunities Rosemount has to offer. As you prepare to enjoy the outdoors, here are some things you can do to ensure that our streets remain safe for all pedestrians and motorists.
If You are a Motorist
- Be aware of pedestrians at all intersections and crosswalks. Motorists must always yield to pedestrians at any intersection, whether there is a marked crosswalk or not.
- Pay particular attention at bus stops and crosswalks near schools; follow the direction of crossing guards.
- Reduce your speed near schools and parks.
- Give elderly pedestrians and small children extra time and space for crossing the street.
- Always look for and yield to bicyclists in bike lanes, especially when turning or entering / exiting driveways.
- Use extreme caution when backing up or leaving parking spaces to be sure no small children are behind the vehicle.
If You are a Pedestrian or Cyclist
- Cross only at marked crosswalks or controlled intersections.
- Do not enter a crosswalk until traffic from all directions has stopped and you have made eye contact with the drivers.
- Never enter a crosswalk when a “Don’t Walk” signal is flashing; wait for the next cycle to cross.
- Be alert to turning vehicles.
- Wear reflective clothing if you’re walking or biking at dawn, dusk, or at night.
